Over the last decade, companies have transitioned their cost centers, IT, HR, and business operations from in-house development to software as a service (SaaS) to reduce operating costs.
Semiconductor companies develop CAD automation in-house to have greater control and customization but are moving to offshore and outsourcing models to be more cost-effective. However, such models have yet to scale due to retention and lack of expertise.

CAD-as-a-Service: An Overview
CAD-as-a-Service offers complementary solutions to enhance the existing CAD team’s tools and workflows or serve as the foundation for a new team. The service provider takes responsibility for maintaining, supporting and enhancing the solutions over time.
A CAD flow is software that automates and streamlines the design process with minimal user input. Typically, CAD flows are developed and customized in-house by a CAD team and not sold by EDA companies.
